Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases
Hormone Science, known as ‘Endocrinology’ is the branch of science that studies the diseases of the hormone glands in our bodies. There are many hormones in our body. These include part of the pancreas (endocrine Pankres), thyroid gland, pituitary gland, adrenal glands, parathyroid glands and reproductive organs (testicles in men, ovary in women). Even fat tissue is located within the endocrine glands and is considered the largest endocrine organ of our body.
Problems with the operation of these glands are very common (more or less work). Taking a sample with the deterioration of the pancreas diabetes; thyroid gland is less work, hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism due to overwork, infertility and hair growth increase due to disorders in the reproductive organs can be seen.
In addition to these, the growth of the thyroid gland (goiter, nodule formations, thyroid cancer), the pituitary gland prolactin (milk hormone) due to excess release of milk from the breasts to come, children due to lack of growth hormone length shortages are specialties of this section.
Vitamin D is actually a hormone. Vitamin D deficiency and osteoporosis (osteoporosis) are specialized topics in Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases.
85-90% of patients admitted to our department are admitted due to diabetes, obesity or thyroid disease.
